SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Police escorted Dell Schanze from a polling location during Tuesday's primary election after reports he was trying to sway votes.
Saratoga Springs police say they started receiving calls around 8 p.m. from residents upset that mayoral candidate "Super Dell" Schanze was trying to sway their votes as they headed toward the polls at Saratoga Shores Elementary School.
Police Cpl. Aaron Rosen says they went to the polling location where Schanze was located.
"Our officers investigated that and detained Mr. Schanze on scene. For right now we have cut him loose and we've turned this over to the city prosecutor for further review," said Rosen.
Police asked Schanze to leave the polling location and made sure he did so.
"Campaigning or any type of attempt to sway votes at all is not only illegal but it's a class-A misdemeanor, within 150 feet of a polling location," Rosen said.
No word yet on whether Schanze might face charges.
The results of the Saratoga Springs mayor's race were not in Wednesday morning.
