SALT LAKE CITY -- Schools in Utah are about to get a lot tougher on coaches who don't stop hazing or bullying on football teams.
The Utah Board of Education is talking about a proposed new rule later this week. It would require training for athletic coaches, in particular, spelling out the end of the "boys will be boys" mentality.
That's where we rely on those adults standing on the sideline to say, ‘Yes, this is how my football team was 20 years ago, but it's not acceptable.' It wasn't acceptable then. It's not now. And now we have more rules and laws that require us to do something about it," said Jean Hill, attorney for the Utah Board of Education.
Hill says coaches who don't act on hazing reported to them could be disciplined, and maybe even lose their teaching license.
