SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah Senate Majority Leader Sheldon Killpack says he's taking himself out of consideration to succeed Lt. Gov. Gary Herbert in the post once Herbert becomes the state's 17th governor.

Herbert will become governor assuming Gov. Jon Huntsman is confirmed as U.S. ambassador to China.

Killpack says his family and work situation have made it impossible for him to consider the job.

Killpack joins House Speaker Dave Clark in announcing that he's not interested in the job.

Herbert spokeswoman Angie Welling has said Herbert will announce his pick for lieutenant governor sometime after Huntsman is confirmed by the U.S. Senate and before Herbert's inauguration.

That could happen within days.
