(ST. GEORGE, Utah -- May 15, 2009) Third-seed Salt Lake CC erupted for six runs in the fifth inning en route to an 8-0 five-inning victory over #14-seed Otero JC in the opening game of the 2009 NJCAA National Championship tournanment Thursday at the Canyons Complex. SLCC will advance to play #11-seed Seminole State CC in the championship bracket quarterfinal Thursday at 8 p.m. (MDT), while OJC will play #6 Spartanburg Methodist CC in an elimination game at 6 p.m. (MDT).
SLCC starter Sarah Clark struck out seven while allowing only two hits in five innings, while the Jordyn McDonald and Shaynie Phillips each drove in two runs to pace the Bruin offense.
