HERRIMAN -- A domestic situation in Herriman ended with a deputy firing two shots at a man. It happened at 13668 S. 5855 West, an address deputies know very well because they have been called to the house 18 times since December; mostly on neighbor complaints and some domestic calls.
It started after 11:00 a.m. when the man and his wife had been arguing. She left with their son and went to a neighbor's house across the street. She called the sheriff's office asking for deputies to be there when she went back home to get some of her things.
When he kept approaching deputies, one of them fired two shots. Zisumbo was not hit, and he dropped his weapon.
"It's pretty clear that he wanted something to happen," said Lt. Don Hutson with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office. "I don't know what changed his mind once the shots were fired. Apparently, maybe, he decided that wasn't the best option."
"This is such a small community," said neighbor Chad Fowler. "I would not have expected anything like this."
Authorities say their deputies do not fire warning shots, and they are trained to eliminate the threat, so Zisumbo could have been killed.
He later told paramedics who were evaluating him that he wanted to die. As for his gun, authorities tell us it was a pellet gun.
Zisumbo was arrested, but we don't know what charges he will face.
