SALT LAKE CITY -- Tammy Sloan, the wife of Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan, has stayed out of the public eye since the two were married more than two years ago.
She had never given a television interview until this week, when she sat down with KSL's Kathy Aiken for an exclusive interview.
Tammy is an Ohio native who moved to Utah in the early 80s to pursue her career in the restaurant business. But due to her busy schedule, she was never a big Jazz fan.
Before meeting Jerry, she said she knew who the Jazz were, but didn't care for sports at all. "But I knew who Jerry was because I watched the news. I'm an avid news watcher." That all changed in the summer of 2005, one year after Jerry's first wife, Bobbye Sloan, died of cancer.
Tammy met Jerry at a local restaurant and they hit it off. The only catch was Tammy had a son, Rhett, who was 9 years old at the time.
"He said, ‘I don't know if I can do the PTA thing again,' and I got mad and said this is not about you, this is about Rhett," Tammy recalls.
In September of 2006, Tammy and Jerry were married, and the Jazz head coach "adores Rhett" according to Tammy.
