HURRICANE, Utah (AP) -- Hurricane police are packing up their squad cars and moving to a new home.
Police Chief Lynn Excell says the department will open the doors of a new 10,000 square-foot, $2.6 million facility on April 20. The building is an old medical facility which the city bought and remodeled.
Features of the new facility include upgraded interview rooms with audio/visual equipment, a larger evidence room, a lab for crime scene technicians, an emergency operations center and offices and interview space for victims.
The Hurricane Police Department has 28 employees. Of those, 16 are certified police officers. The department also oversees school crossing guards and the city code enforcement division. Excell says he's adding a new victim's services advocate.
