SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (AP) -- A Utah horse trainer has won the title of best trainer in the state as part of the first Utah Horse Trainers Challenge.
Marty Simper, 30, competed against three other contestants. Contenders were each given a 2-year-old horse on Jan. 15 and had 60 days to train them to do things like figure eights and rope cattle.
The final challenge took place at the Utah Horse Expo on Sunday at the Salt Lake County Equestrian Complex. The three-day expo featured educational shows, clinics, demonstrations and vendors.
Simper, of Farr West, will receive a $5,000 cash prize and other items including saddles and horse accessories.
The four horses were auctioned off at the end of the expo.
