SALT LAKE CITY -- The tightening state budget could mean shorter seasons at Utah's state parks, and it could mean fewer facilities when they are open.
Cuts currently being considered by the Legislature would reduce the state parks budget by 16 percent in 2010, and that comes after a 3 percent cut during a special session this year.
The director of the parks agency says that if those cuts are passed, they will have to cut employees, which could lead to campground closures, and the shut off of water at some parks earlier in the year.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports close to 5 million people visited the parks last year.
