Alex Cabrero reporting High school football is all about rivalries and bragging rights. Sometimes those rivalries involve pranks.
One prank in Sevier County went too far and some teens are now in a lot of trouble.
Early Wednesday morning, somebody chained a dead sheep to South Sevier High School's goal post in Monroe, Utah.
Russell Mason, Sevier County Sheriff's Office: "There have been a lot of pranks, but this one went a little too far."
Investigators traced the locks on the chain to the local Wal-Mart. They were able to obtain surveillance video from the Wal-Mart that showed two teens buying the locks last night. Investigators then traveled to Richfield High to speak with the two teens identified in the surveillance video.
Russell Mason, Sevier County Sheriff's Office: "At this time, we have four young men who have admitted to doing it, and have three others who we believe are involved."
The teens planned it being the prank of the year. They may be paying for it for a long time.
Russell Mason, Sevier County Sheriff's Office: "We found out they shot it with a .22 in some farmer's field. Didn't have permission to take the sheep. They went into the field, shot it, loaded it into the truck, and brought it here."
The two schools have a great rivalry. Deputies hope the pranks do not escalate.
Russell Mason, Sevier County Sheriff's Office: "Hopefully we can put a stop to it now, before it gets out of hand."
Deputies were also concerned about the revenge factor, but it appears that it was all taken care of on the field. South Sevier beat Richfield, 26 to 6.
The teens involved in the prank were not arrested, but could face charges of theft, vandalism and animal cruelty.
