A major airplane repair company that put plans on hold to open a new facility in Provo says it still wants to start working in Utah, even if it's on a small scale for now.

Duncan Aviation announced it will rent space at the Million Air hangar at Provo Municipal Airport and employ around 20 people. It says in the long run, it hopes to have a business jet repair center in Provo that could employ up to 700 people. But with today's economy, the company will start small in Utah.

"The encouraging thing is it's slowing down, it's not stopping," said Provo Economic Development Director Leland Gamette.

He says he's hopeful the company actually will start building its own facility while it's renting space.

"They're very committed," he said.

In a news release, Duncan Aviation says it still plans on building in Provo when the economy and timing is right.

It says the leased hangar will give it at least 15,000 feet for the service and support of business jet aircraft.

Duncan has complete service facilities in Lincoln, Neb., and Battle Creek, Mich. Additional locations include more than 20 satellite avionics and seven Rapid Response facilities throughout the country. The company states that it employs nearly 2,200 people.
