SALT LAKE CITY — For University of Utah senior Drew Gordillo, this back-to-school is the start of something transformational.
This semester, Gordillo isn't just returning to the classroom — he's stepping onto the playing field of tech innovation, thanks to a unique opportunity with Beagle Technologies.
"We're doing something special here," Gordillo said.
Gordillo snagged this opportunity the modern way — not through polished resumes, but performances.
"I won a cold-calling competition at the University of Utah," Gordillo said. "Before that, I was frantically trying to find an internship."
Now Gordillo is doing more than interning — he's designing an internship program in partnership with his own university.
"We'll be right on campus, assessing and training through the semester," Gordillo said. "When graduation comes, they can step into a full-time salary position here with Beagle."
Gordillo said Beagle is disrupting the insurance industry. Its parent company, Corgi, was the first AI insurance company based in Silicon Valley. Beagle represents its first line of insurance, focused on real estate and property management, and is now based in South Salt Lake.
"What we're doing at Beagle is we are tackling the insurance industry, and we're automating it with AI," said Beagle President Johnny Hanna. "That's never been done before."
A program like this, which Gordillo is leading, allows students to get a taste of what their future could look like.
Mike T. Brown, head of partnerships at Beagle, likened Beagle's trajectory to that of a rocket ship, transforming a $3 trillion insurance industry with innovative technology.
"We have a rocket ship of an opportunity here — building technology within an industry that's outdated," Brown said. "We're disrupting insurance in a way that changes how we interact with it."
The team wants to get on board as quickly as possible — now. Anyone interested, Gordillo said, can send an email to jobs@joinbeagle.com or use a QR code he provided to get started.
