SALT LAKE CITY — A former Salt Lake police officer accused of stalking a former girlfriend was arrested Thursday and accused of sending another officer explicit pictures of his ex-girlfriend.
Todd Douglas Goodsell, 40, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of two counts of distribution of an intimate image and violating a protective order.
In June, Goodsell was charged in 3rd District Court with stalking, a third-degree felony. In that case, a woman ended a long-term relationship with Goodsell in November. But after that, Goodsell "would continuously attempt to contact (the woman) through various means including text, email, phone calls and several apps," according to charging documents.
The woman told investigators that she was frightened by Goodsell's behavior "and fears the situation worsening," the charges state.
On Sunday, a Sandy police officer who used to be Goodsell's co-worker, went to his home to drop off personal items Goodsell had left at the Salt Lake City Police Department, as well as pick up "some equipment, which belonged to Goodsell's former employer," according to a police booking affidavit.
The affidavit does not say when Goodsell's employment with Salt Lake police ended or whether he was fired or resigned.
During the approximately 30-minute exchange, Goodsell "expressed anger toward his former employer and anger toward (the) former girlfriend," the affidavit states.
Goodsell allegedly told the officer that he "had some intimate images" of his ex and that he "intended to send these images to (her) current employer, in hopes that she would get into trouble with that employer and be perceived as 'misconduct,'" the affidavit alleges
The Sandy officer told Goodsell not to do that. But moments after leaving Goodsell's residence, he received two photos on his phone from Goodsell of the former girlfriend topless, according to the affidavit.
The officer reported the pictures to a supervisor who verified that "Goodsell is currently out on pretrial release for a stalking case involving the same victim" and that sending the pictures violated the protective order against him, in addition to being illegal on its own, the affidavit says.
