LEWISTON, Cache County — An Idaho man was charged Monday with killing a woman and a 9-month-old baby in Cache County in a car crash in December.

Nathaniel Stan Haudley-Resendiz, 21, of Preston, Idaho, was charged Aug. 7 in 1st District Court with two counts of manslaughter, a first-degree felony; knowingly producing, dispensing, or manufacturing a controlled substance, a second-degree felony; driving under the influence and use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor, as well as several traffic-related infractions.

On Dec. 15, 2024, Haudley-Resendiz was driving south on state Route 91 in his 2014 GMC Terrain when he crossed the painted divider and into the path of a Mazda 3, according to court documents.

Sheriff's deputies report that both vehicles then crashed, causing the deaths of the driver of the Mazda, Heather Marshall, 39, of Lewiston, and a 9-month-old baby boy in the back passenger seat of Haudley-Resendiz's car.

The baby was not identified.

"The child in the back seat of the vehicle Nathaniel was operating was improperly restrained in the car seat. The vehicle Nathaniel was operating was traveling at a speed that was not recommended by the spare tire manufacturer (donut) on the left rear tire," according to an arrest warrant filed in the case.

Haudley-Resendiz had THC in his system — the psychoactive chemical found in marijuana — and was also driving without a valid driver's license, according to court documents. Deputies reported that drug paraphernalia was also found in his car.
