NEW HAMPSHIRE – Bears have a way of commandeering all kinds of things that humans use.
For example, if you have a swimming pool in bear country, you basically have a "bear soaker." If you leave snacks in your truck overnight, then you have a "bear pantry." And if you have a trampoline, you have a "bear launcher."
That's the thing about bears: They're curious and intrepid enough to find their own way to use the world around them. Their human neighbors might not always appreciate these efforts, but in the end, we're all just guests living in the bears' world anyway.
Take the bird feeder in this video. I guarantee that when the homeowners assembled this feeder and installed it in the yard, there was no mention in the instruction manual about it being perfect for bears.
New Hampshire is known for its robust bear population, so it's not surprising to see a bear ambling around your yard here. But it is a little surprising to wake up to a missing bird feeder.
Smart bear. A paw full of seeds does sound mighty nice after waking up from a long winter's nap.
