AT THE VENUE — The best memory I have from reporting the 2020 windstorm happened as I came across the damage outside West High School. The lawn near the front doors was littered with branches that came crashing down from the strong downslope winds.

What made it memorable wasn't the sight of hundreds of sticks, but the sheer joy on the face of a dog being walked near this scene at the same time I was touring the damage. It was nothing but a field of endless opportunities for that dog.

There weren't nearly as many stick options at the concert in this video that WeRateDogs recently posted to X, but the dog at the center of the video still hatched the perfect scheme to land one.

As you can see, the dog eagerly walks up to the drummer on stage and tries to snatch the drumstick from him as he plays. After a playful struggle, the drummer hands the dog a backup stick without missing a beat, letting the dog run off stage with it — to the audience's delight.

It goes to show that every dog really does have its day, no matter how many sticks are available.
