(KSL News) A federal grand jury has indicted a Sandy man on five counts of operating an illegal gambling business and money laundering.

Michael Lee Johnson is charged with running an illegal poker room out of a rental property in Salt Lake City. His operation was shut down by Salt Lake City police in June of 2006.

"As long as the state has indicated they are not going to legalize gambling, then it's a crime that has to be vigorously watched and prosecuted," said U.S. Attorney for Utah Brett Tolman.

Johnson faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
