THE NEIGHBORHOOD — It seems like just about every restaurant these days is getting a drive-thru. Did you know that some Golden Corral locations have a drive-thru? When even buffets are installing a drive-thru, you know you've got a full-blown trend on your hands.
Not that I'm complaining. There are times when a drive-thru is the perfect option. As the parent of a feisty toddler, I simply can't go into a restaurant when he's out of sorts. But I can definitely grab some grub through the window and head home to eat.
Given that restaurants are trying to provide more speed and convenience for customers, I assume that some establishments catch heat for not offering a drive-thru. As you'll see in this video, restaurants might even get a drive-thru against their will.
My first thought was that this rampaging truck might've been driven by someone who was distracted by their phone. Or, perhaps, it was the owner of a rival restaurant trying to put their competition out of commission.
But a closer look at the footage reveals that the truck was actually driverless — and the vehicle had an issue with its brakes.
Turns out, everyone was OK. But, frankly, if a runaway truck came crashing through the doors while I was eating at a buffet like the Golden Corral, I doubt I'd be able to move fast enough to get out of its way.
