TOOELE — A Tooele man has been arrested and accused of injuring his family's cat to the point its eyes may have to be removed, according to police.

Alexander Fabian Acosta, 24, was arrested Sunday for investigation of torture of a companion animal, possession of a weapon by a restricted person, four counts of drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, and drug possession with intent to distribute.

Tooele police received a report Acosta was strangling a family kitten and "throwing it onto the floor, and hitting it in the head with a blunt object, causing several injuries to its head and eyes. It was also advised the kitten's eyes would have to be surgically removed due to the severity of its injuries," according to a police booking affidavit.

Officers obtained a search warrant for Acosta's residence and found various amount of cocaine, marijuana, 77 THC vape pens, "unknown red pills" and "unknown green pills," bullets and "35 pieces of paraphernalia," the affidavit states.

Acosta was placed on probation in February after being convicted of aggravated assault, a charge that was amended down to a class A misdemeanor, according to court records.
