PROVO — A staff member at a residential treatment facility for teens was charged Tuesday with abusing a resident.
Franklin Vincent Tauanuu, 38, of Provo, is charged in 4th District Court with aggravated child abuse, a third-degree felony.
On Feb. 8, 2022, Tauanuu was a staff member at Youth Health Associates in Provo. He became "frustrated" with a 15-year-old boy who "was not paying attention to the instructions of the staff" and threw a headset at Tauanuu, according to charging documents.
Prosecutors say Tauanuu "took (the boy) to the floor, then landed on the child, breaking his collarbone. The child was instructed to not do anything weight bearing or involving collisions, such as sports, for at least three weeks," the charges state.
A representative from Youth Health Associates did not immediately respond Tuesday to KSL.com's request for comment.
