Pleasant Grove takes down undefeated Skyridge 34-31 in overtime
The final undefeated team in 6A is undefeated no more.Why did we choose this game?
Region 3 is a gauntlet this season, so no game serves as a break over the five-game stretch. Despite that, No. 2 Skyridge has remained undefeated through eight weeks of action, but their stiffest competition of the season comes Friday night against No. 6 Pleasant Grove and again a week later (at American Fork).
There's no reason to doubt the defending 6A champion Falcons, who are averaging 43.3 points and holding opponents to 16.8 points per game this season, but streaks are meant to be broken.
Pleasant Grove, which holds teams to 14.1 points per game, will have to slow down Skyridge quarterback Jackson Stevens, who has thrown for 2,596 yards (third in the country) and 33 touchdowns on the season. Stevens' last performance was a five-touchdown night to cruise past Lone Peak in a blowout win.
The Vikings had been perfect through the season until a 31-10 loss to American Fork last week. Pleasant Grove will need to be on top of its game Friday night on the road to keep from having back-to-back losses for the first time since last season — coincidentally, to American Fork and Skyridge.
