PLEASANT GROVE — An Orem man was charged Monday with stabbing another man nine times during a fight outside of a bar.
Alec Jesse Jones, 35, is charged in 4th District Court with aggravated assault resulting in serious injury, a second-degree felony.
On Sept. 12, two groups were at at the PG Pool Hall, 15 E. Center Street in Pleasant Grove, when Jones "got upset because someone in the other group was looking at him," according to charging documents.
The victim allegedly told Jones "he would fight him if he wanted a fight," the charges state. Jones was then kicked out of the bar.
When the victim's group left the bar about 20 minutes later, Jones was still outside in his car with two others.
"A verbal confrontation occurred between the two groups, and (the victim) approached the defendant," the charges say.
Investigators say at that point, there is a disagreement among witnesses as to whether Jones "suckerpunched" the victim. But the two men started fighting and Jones fell backward into his car.
"(The victim) leaned in on top of him, pulled (Jones') shirt over his head, and continued punching the defendant," the charges state. At the same time, the victim said he could feel Jones punching him in the back. The victim's friend pulled him off of Jones, "and at that point they realized that (Jones) wasn't punching him, he was stabbing him." according to the charges.
The victim was stabbed nine times and suffered a punctured lung. Jones was later located by police and arrested.
