GRANTSVILLE — An elderly woman is dead and another woman was taken to a hospital after a crash on Wednesday.

About 1:50 p.m., one vehicle was towing another eastbound on state Route 112 heading toward Tooele when for unknown reasons, the woman driving the towed vehicle lost control and swung into oncoming traffic, according to Grantsville Police Lt. Jeff Watson.

The towed car struck a vehicle traveling west; the woman driving the vehicle being towed was killed on impact, Watson said. The other vehicle was flipped on its top and its driver, another woman, was transported to a hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening, said Watson.

Impairment is not considered to be a factor in the crash, he said.

The road was closed for approximately four hours before reopening.

The identities of those involved were not released.
