VOLLEYBALL DAY IN NEBRASKA — Husker fans have witnessed five national championships in the history of its women's volleyball program, but the game on Wednesday against Omaha was unlike any before it.
Nebraska packed 92,003 people into Memorial Stadium as the No. 4-ranked Huskers swept the Mavericks in three sets. The football stadium crowd broke the world record for attendance at a women's sporting event, topping the 91,648 at a soccer match last year between FC Barcelona and Wolfsburg in Spain.

"We took a chance by playing in Memorial Stadium," Nebraska head coach John Cook said. "To go for the record and break it...I don't think anybody ever could have envisioned that when this whole thing started."

"It's incredible. I don't have enough words to describe it," Nebraska middle blocker Andi Jackson said. "We were walking out of the tunnel after the second set, and we heard on the speaker we had just broken the world record. Everyone was trying to stay locked in, but we were also so excited. I can't describe how grateful I am to be a part of it."
The previous U.S. record attendance for a women's sporting event was 90,185 for the United States vs. China soccer World Cup final in July 1999 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
