TOOELE — A confrontation between two groups that started with a wrestling match followed by a minor fender-bender, then culminated with shots fired from both sides has resulted in multiple felony charges.

Trevor Lamar Hackford, 21, and Dennie Albert Vario, 19, both of Tooele, were each charged Thursday in 3rd District Court with three counts of discharge of a firearm, a second-degree felony, while Samuel Isiah Lundwall, 18, of Tooele, was charged with five counts of discharging a firearm and two counts of aggravated assault, third-degree felonies.

On Monday, Hackford and Vario got into an altercation at a department store with Lundwall and a second man, which police say turned into what amounted to a "wrestling match." It was not immediately known what the disagreement was over, but police say the two groups were previously acquainted.

While leaving the store parking lot, one group got into a minor "fender bender" accident with the other, according to Tooele police.

Lundwall's friend, however, told police that Vario "rammed" his car and Lundwall was upset "by how they felt (Hackford) disrespected them," a police booking affidavit states.

After Hackford and Vario arrived at a home in Tooele near 100 South and 100 East, they received a call from the other two men who were "threatening them that the fight wasn't over and they were going to be shot up," according to the affidavit.

A short time later, Lundwall and his friend drove by, and Lundwall — while standing through the sunroof — fired several rounds at the car Hackford and Vario were in, the affidavit states. Vario allegedly told police he was in the kitchen when he heard the shots, grabbed Hackford's gun on the counter and went outside and returned fire.

"Officers were advised a female had driven herself to the hospital and received care for a gunshot wound to her foot," the affidavit states. It did not provide any other details about the injured woman.

The investigation into a fourth man involved in the altercation continued Friday.
