THE TV — Commercials often seem like more of an annoyance than a bite-sized form of entertainment while watching TV.
Aside from the millions upon millions spent on Super Bowl commercials, most consumers don't expect a lot from a media genre that's trying to sell them something. But once in a while a true gem of a commercial gets made, and the world feels a little brighter.
These types of ads tend to be so delightful we actually think of them fondly and look them up on YouTube once in a while just to remember that little spark of joy they brought us.
This featured video in this article fits that mold perfectly. Let's reach back to 2010 to revisit this little comedic masterpiece.
The video features Kevin Bacon's biggest fan who is played by…Kevin Bacon. Mr. Bacon makes the perfect nerdy fan with the addition of a false nose, a beer gut, and some of the clothes and inflection that are stereotypically associated with someone who is nerding out hardcore about something. (No judgment.) The extreme fandom is made in more perfect with props — movies posters on every wall, a work-in-progress embroidery piece, and even a glass festooned with Kevin's face that proudly holds a toothbrush.
One of the commercial's highlights is Kevin Bacon's biggest fan, who is played by Kevin Bacon, does a terrible Kevin Bacon impression. (I bet you're really tired of reading the name Kevin Bacon right now, but I have no regrets.)
In case you're wondering, the commercial is for a Logitech product. And while you may not remember that fact in two weeks, you'll likely remember the hilarious, old Kevin Bacon commercial you saw that made you smile.
