ST. GEORGE — Two people were arrested in Santa Clara last week after police say they were found with packages reportedly taken from the front porch of two homes located nearby.

One concern is that the incident occurred less than a month before the holiday season begins, which authorities say is when "porch pirates" come out in full force as parcels begin to vanish across Southern Utah.

Santa Clara-Ivins police patrol officer noticed two individuals clothed in all black riding a bicycle with a trailing basket shortly before 5 a.m.

Suspicious, the officer stopped and spoke to the suspects – Cassandra Gutierrez, 23, and Keely Irene Lopez, 18, according to charging documents filed with the court. The officer noticed two packages in the basket that belonged at a residence down the road.
