THE FISH TANK — There's a lot of speculation that occurs while shopping for a new fishing lure.

For example, you might walk down an aisle that's loaded with a vast array of spinners. They come in all colors, shapes and sizes. Some have rattles inside and are adorned with massive bucktails, while others are so sleek that they look like tiny torpedoes.

Which spinner will catch the most fish?

That's a great question! You're a human, after all, and it's highly unlikely that the same things that might attract you to a particular spinner would also attract a fish.

Think about it — you're trying to catch a fish that eats bugs, salamanders or some other type of aquatic critters you would never eat. You don't share much in common with your quarry, so you shouldn't trust your instinct when it comes to lure selection.

If you want to have any hope of identifying the best lures, you've got to think like a fish — or, better yet, just ask a fish. This video shows how:

So, there you have it. Next time you have a lure-related question, head over to your nearest fish tank. If your lure gets snubbed, throw it right back on the rack. But if the fish crowd up to the glass and get a delirious look in their eyes, go ahead and buy a few of the lures and drive straight to your favorite lake.
