HUNTSVILLE, Weber County — A home in Weber County was destroyed overnight Wednesday in a fire that caused an estimated $1 million in damages, firefighters said.

About 12:30 a.m., crews arrived at the fire in the area of 7500 E. 200 South in Huntsville. When they arrived, the roof was fully engulfed in flames and part of the roof had already collapsed into the structure, Weber Fire District Deputy Chief David Reed said.

Crews fought the blaze from outside the house until they could contain it, Reed said.

"Everybody got out safely. No one was hurt from the family, no one was hurt fighting the fire. It will probably be a total loss — it's at least a million-dollar home up here in Huntsville," Reed said.

The residents are now staying with family members, the deputy chief said.

The cause of the fire is not known, but firefighters believe it started in the chimney.

He urged people to keep an eye on their chimneys.

"A lot of times chimneys can be installed correctly. They can be tripled-walled piped, but if they don't get cleaned correctly, creosote can build up in them and over time, even if the wood is installed properly, will pyrolyze. The fire will get really, really hot when that cresol gets lit and then it burns into the structure. So the best thing you can do with a chimney is keep it clean," Reed said.
