Utah health officials report 24 COVID-19 deaths, 186 new cases

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah health officials reported 24 COVID-19 deaths on Thursday, along with 186 new cases.

The rolling, seven-day average for new positive tests is now 197 per day, down from 226 on Wednesday. The seven-day average of people whose COVID-19 tests are positive is currently 7.5%, continuing a decline.

The Utah Department of Health also reported that another 6,609 people were tested and 2,665 were vaccinated since Wednesday's report.

School children account for 31 of the 186 new cases. Of those cases, 15 were children between ages 5 and 10, 6 were ages 11-13, and 10 were ages 14-17.

Currently, 223 people are hospitalized throughout the state with COVID-19, with 41 of those patients in the intensive care unit, according to the health department. Utah has had a total of 33,597 hospitalizations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Utah has seen 4,518 deaths from COVID-19. Of the 24 deaths reported on Thursday, eight occurred more than a month ago.

  • A Washington County woman, between the ages of 65 and 84, who was hospitalized when she died
  • A Salt Lake County woman, over 85, not hospitalized
  • A Salt Lake County man, 45-64, long-term care facility resident
  • Two Washington County men, over 85, long-term care facility residents
  • A Weber County woman, over 85, not hospitalized
  • A Summit County woman, 65-84, unknown hospitalization status
  • A Salt Lake County woman, over 85, long-term care facility resident
  • A Weber County man, 65-84, hospitalized
  • A Utah County woman, over 85, not hospitalized
  • A Morgan County man, over 85, hospitalized
  • A Davis County man, over 85, long-term care facility resident
  • A Box Elder County woman, 65-84, long-term care facility resident
  • A Uintah County man, over 85, not hospitalized
  • A Carbon County woman, 65-84, long-term care facility resident
  • A Utah County woman, 65-84, hospitalized
  • A Uintah County man, over 85, long-term care facility resident
  • A Cache County man, over 85, hospitalized
  • Two Utah County men, 65-84, hospitalized
  • A Davis County woman, over 85, hospitalized
  • A Cache County woman, over 85, long-term care facility resident
  • A Sevier County man, 65-84, not hospitalized
