AMERICAN FORK — A man previously convicted of impersonating a police officer has been arrested and accused of doing it again.

William Chris Graham, 39, of American Fork, was wearing a uniform, badge, utility belt and even had a patch with his name on his uniform when he was arrested Sunday, according to a police booking affidavit.

Police were called to American Fork Hospital on Sunday for a man who "was at the hospital claiming to be a police officer wearing a duty uniform, including a vest, badge, and Salt Lake City police shoulder patches," the affidavit states. He told employees he was an officer and performed duties such as traffic stops.

Hospital staffers became suspicious, however, because the man was at the hospital two days earlier wearing a U.S. Army uniform, according to the affidavit.

When real police officers arrived to question Graham, he was wearing a hospital gown. But an officer could still see he was wearing a belt typically used by police.

"The belt had multiple handcuffs, pepper spray, a baton, two handgun magazines loaded with ammunition, and a flashlight. I also saw a vest typically worn by police officers. The vest had a silver badge saying 'Officer Sgt. Graham," the affidavit states. Another patch on the back of the vest stated "Emergency Response Team."

The officers verified with Salt Lake police that they did not have an officer or cadet by that name. Graham was arrested for investigation of impersonation of an officer.

He was charged with the same crime in 2012 and was convicted after pleading no contest. The plea was held in abeyance for six months and later dismissed after he did not commit any new offenses, according to court records.
