THE BUS LANE — The longer we live on this earth, the more close calls we will experience — and by close calls, I mean things that could have sent us right off this planet had we moved one inch more or been one second faster.

We've all experienced them. Recently, I was driving up a canyon road and a deer was standing in the middle of the two-lane highway. I had plenty of time to see her, and I stopped and waited until she crossed the road.

When the animal was clear, I started driving again. Right behind where the deer had stopped was a blind corner. As I was coming up on it, a driver came barreling down the canyon, took the corner wide and was completely in my lane. She had to be going well over 60 mph. Had that deer not been in the middle of the road when it was, I would have headed into that blind corner at about 30 mph and met that other driver head-on.

That was a close call, and I plan on naming my next child after that deer. I'll find out her name later.

While that moment got my heart pounding — and I'm sure all of you have similar experiences — I don't know if I've had a close call quite this close.

In the video, a man hops out of a vehicle and onto a crosswalk. He starts running across the road to get to wherever he is going. While he is on a crosswalk, he completely ignores the fact he is coming up on a bus lane. (For anyone who doesn't know, a bus lane is a lane dedicated to only busses so they can avoid stop-and-go traffic.)

Well, the man didn't seem to care that this is the lane busses come hurdling through, and he didn't look. At the last second, he sees the bus and uses every muscle in his body to stop. He loses his balance and falls backward avoiding a collision with the bus. It looks like the side of the bus trimmed his beard it was so close.

Thankfully, no one was hurt in this incident. And apparently this man's heart is incredibly healthy, because I think I would have died on the spot from a heart attack.

Close calls can be incredible to see, but let's look both ways before crossing the street, or maybe slow down on blind curves. Nothing you're headed to is that important, I promise.
