Neighbors are reacting to a fatal stabbing that happened inside their apartment complex. It happened late last night at the Seasons at Pebble Creek apartment complex near 1700 South Redwood Road. Now investigators are looking for possible suspects, and neighbors are trying to move on.

Neighbors say the young man who died lived there and might have attended a party there before this tragedy happened.

Amanda Lillie is the man's 15-year-old neighbor who called 911. She said, "He was just bleeding all over. He was pale."

That man was 25-year-old Matthew Maxwell. Lillie says she heard a lot of commotion outside her apartment just before 1 a.m. "Then I heard someone yelling about his friend having got stabbed," she said.

Lillie grew concerned and got her father. She said, "He brought out a bunch of towels from the house while I was calling 911, trying to keep his blood in, keep him from bleeding all over the place."

But by the time police and medics got there, Maxwell's wounds were severe.

Lt. Cal Kunz, with the Salt Lake City Police Department, said, "He was in critical condition. At that point he was transported to an area hospital. Later he was pronounced dead."

Many neighbors say there was a party there last night, a party Maxwell attended. Police didn't say if the stabbing happened there or on the steps where Maxwell was found.

"At this point I don't know any information on the suspects or anything further on the stabbing," Kunz told us.

Police are hoping someone out there can lead them to a suspect or at least a description. If you have any information, please call Salt Lake City Police at 799-3000.
