SALT LAKE CITY — A motorcyclist died Wednesday morning after losing control and crashing, police say.

A motorcyclist was heading west near 1100 E. 500 South when he lost control, was separated from his bike and went over the median barricade, Salt Lake police officer Jason Johnson said. The man was wearing a helmet when the incident occurred late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

An officer discovered the incident while driving in the area just after midnight Wednesday morning, Johnson said. It is still being investigated to determine what caused the man to lose control and crash.

The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries. His identity has not been released.
