Investigators think they now know what killed two dogs near City Creek Canyon. It appears someone in the area set out poison because of a wild pest problem.
The animals were walking on the Freedom Trail above Memory Grove two weeks ago when they suddenly became sick and died. Animal Services Capt. Shon Hardy said, "This was not intentional, and I don't think we need to worry that somebody's there in the park, purposefully trying to poison people's off-leash animals."
Investigators are still investigating possible charges. Hardy says any time people use poison for pest control, they need to use it properly.
Animal Services officers believe they've recovered all of the poison, but they're urging people to still keep their dogs on leashes as a precaution.
