SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The University of Utah will hire a Texas developer to build its planned Universe Project.
University officials announced the decision to hire Inland American Communities Group, Inc., Tuesday.
Planned for the southwest corner of campus next to Rice-Eccles Stadium, the Universe Project is a 7.9-acre mixed-used development that will combine transit with commercial and residential units.
Some community members have opposed the project, fearing its impact on the area's residents.
Inland American Communities is a subsidiary of Inland American Real Estate Trust, which focuses on community building in university and urban environments nationwide. The company has offices in Atlanta, Dallas and Tempe, Ariz.
The company has built projects for universities in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Pennsylvania and Texas.
