FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) -- An advocacy group is calling for a shelter in Davis County to help tackle a growing homelessness problem.
The Davis Local Homeless Coordinating Committee recently held its first meeting to discuss challenges facing the homeless and those trying to help them.
Sharon Anderson, director of The Family Connection Center, says her office had to turn away 17 people last week because the center had run out of motel vouchers funded by state and federal programs.
She says sending the homeless to Ogden and Salt Lake City doesn't help because those shelters are often full.
An emergency assistance case manager for the connection center says Davis County needs a shelter to deal with the increase in homelessness.
