WALLSBURG, Wasatch County — A 24-year-old man drowned in Deer Creek Reservoir on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Search and rescue crews were called out to a report of three swimmers in distress at the reservoir about 2 p.m. Sunday, according to a Facebook post from Wasatch County Search and Rescue.

An alert bystander rescued two swimmers, but a third was unaccounted for and had drowned, officials said.

The deceased was identified as Jose Antonio Fuentes-Alvarez, 24, of Salt Lake City, who was seen swimming in the Rainbow Bay area. His body was found approximately 80 yards from the shore at 16 feet deep. He was not wearing a life jacket, officials said.

Officials from Utah State Parks and Recreation, Summit County Utah Search and Rescue and Wasatch County Search and Rescue assisted with the recovery of the man’s body, according to the Facebook post.

“The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation would like to extend our condolences to Fuentes-Alvarez’s friends and family, and thank the other agencies who assisted in this incident,” the division said in a news release.
