SOUTH JORDAN — A shelter-in-place order was lifted Thursday afternoon after a man police were negotiating with was taken into custody.

Police were initially called out on a report of a suspicious vehicle at the Walmart at 11328 S. Jordan Gateway about 8:20 a.m. Later in the morning, police issued a shelter-in-place order in the area of 11000 S. Cadbury Drive.

"There is an active police situation, we are asking the public to stay out of the area," South Jordan public safety officials said on Twitter. "A shelter in place call has been sent to residents. There is no longer an active threat to the public at this time."

Police negotiated with a man connected to the incident in a backyard nearby. He displayed a gun, police said, but the situation was contained in the area. An approximate address for the backyard was not available.

Just after noon, the man was taken into custody and officials lifted the shelter-in-place order.

Police know the man's identity but have not released it.

A bus bridge was briefly set up between the South Jordan and Draper FrontRunner stations due to the police activity in the area, according to Utah Transit Authority. As of 9:04 a.m., Utah Transit Authority said the police activity had cleared up and the bus bridge was been canceled.

FrontRunner trains in the area have begun resuming normal service, UTA said.
