SALT LAKE CITY — A second man has been arrested in connection with an alleged drug deal that turned deadly in West Valley City in February, according to police.

On Feb. 5, Manuel Andres Martinez, 20, was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds in the street in the 6400 block of Wakefield Way, according to charging documents.

A witness heard gunshots coming from inside a stopped vehicle, and then saw Ian Cameron Reddick, 18, of West Valley City, get out of the front passenger seat and “pull the rear passenger (Martinez) out of the vehicle into the street while simultaneously taking a handgun from Manuel,” the charges state.

Reddick was located by U.S. marshals in a motel in Harris County, Texas, a few days later. He was charged in 3rd District Court with murder and aggravated robbery, both first-degree felonies, and obstructing justice, a second-degree felony, and extradited back to Utah.

He told investigators that the gun belonged to his friend, the driver of the car that night, and that a struggle ensued over the gun with Martinez during a drug deal, the charges state.

“Reddick was able to wrestle the pistol away from Manuel and that’s when Reddick just started shooting. (Reddick’s friend) stopped the vehicle and Reddick got out of the car and pulled Manuel out of the car and he and his (friend) drove away,” Reddick told authorities, charging documents state.

On Thursday, West Valley police found that friend, Edgar Noel Aguilar, 20, of Salt Lake City, and arrested him for investigation of obstruction of justice.

“The car and gun used in the homicide have not been recovered as of now. Edgar refuses to talk to police about the incident and refuses to disclose any details,” according to a police affidavit.
