WEST VALLEY CITY — A West Valley man who was investigated for possession of child pornography in 2014 was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of the same allegations.

Robert William Ellis, 44, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

The investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force began in October when agents received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that child pornography was being uploaded to an account, according to a police booking affidavit.

Utah authorities collected information that traced back to Ellis and on Tuesday served a search warrant on his home, the affidavit states.

“Over 1,000 images of (child sex abuse) material was found on (a) computer tower,” according to the affidavit. “An investigation was conducted on Robert in 2014 for similar charges of child exploitation material. It appears that Robert has been involved in the viewing and possessing of child pornography for several years. Robert admitted to having a problem with this since he was in his late teens.”

The Utah Attorney General’s Office requested that Ellis be held on $250,000 bail.
