AMERICAN FORK — After a dayslong search, police have arrested a driver suspected in a fatal hit and run crash on Wednesday.
The crash killed a 64-year-old man on Monday evening and a white truck suspected of colliding with the man left the scene. The man who died was identified Wednesday evening as Scott Sleator.
After days of investigation, 37-year-old Darrell Day, of American Fork, turned himself in and told investigators he knew he had hit a person but fled the scene out of fear of going to jail, according to a news release from American Fork police.
Initially after the accident, police said it was possible the driver didn’t know they had hit a person.
There is no evidence to suggest Day was distracted or impaired in any way during the crash, police said.
Day was booked into Utah County Jail on investigation of failing to stop at an accident involving a death, a third-degree felony.
