OREM — No injuries were reported after a California Zephyr Amtrak train collided with a vehicle that was on the tracks late Tuesday evening, officials said.
The collision took place about 10:55 p.m. near 488 W. 2000 South in Orem, according to Orem police and a news release from Amtrak officials.
There was no one in the vehicle when the train collided with it, according to Orem Police Lt. Trent Colledge. A man had high-centered his vehicle on the tracks but was able to get out before the train crashed into it, Colledge said.
The train was heading west from Chicago en route to Emeryville, California, when the crash occurred, Amtrak officials said.
None of the 140 passengers or crew members on board was injured. The train was delayed for about two hours and 20 minutes and began moving again about 1:30 a.m., according to Amtrak.
The company said it was working with the Orem Police Department to investigate the crash.
