SALT LAKE CITY — The wife of a man who shot and killed a Chinese student at the University of Utah in 2017 has been extradited to Colorado, where she faces a separate charge of murder.

Kathleen Elizabeth Rose Boutain, 25, arrived early Tuesday in Golden Colorado, confirmed Pam Russell, spokeswoman for the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

Boutain remains jailed there without the possibility of bond as she awaits a court appearance expected to take place Wednesday or Thursday, Russell said.

Her husband, Austin “AJ” Boutain, admitted to shooting and killing ChenWei Guo, 23, of Beijing, near the foothills bordering the U. in a botched carjacking attempt on Oct. 30, 2017. As part of a plea deal in the Utah case, Austin Boutain was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

He was returned to Colorado in July, where he pleaded guilty to murder last month, the Denver Post reported. He is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday.

The newspaper reported Austin and Kathleen Boutain were homeless and made a living by selling marijuana they stole from dispensaries there.

Police said Austin Boutain slit 63-year-old Mitchell Bradford Ingle’s throat because Ingle flirted with his wife. He and Kathleen Boutain then fled to Utah to hide, court documents say. That brought them near the University of Utah, where the two split up and Austin Boutain killed Guo.

Kathleen Boutain had been ordered to a year in the Salt Lake County Jail after pleading guilty in May to two counts of theft by receiving stolen property, a second-degree felony.
