FREDERICKSBURG, Virginia — A mother and son who have apparent ties to Utah were found dead in a triple homicide in central Virginia this week, according to authorities and news reports from the area.
About 9 a.m. Wednesday, Rachel Ozuna, 34, and Kyrrus Ozuna, 14, were found dead in a home in rural Spotsylvania County, about 60 miles south of Washington, D.C., according to a press release from the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office.
Another man, 34-year-old Michael Coleman, was also found dead in the home, according to the sheriff’s office. The three appear to have died from the impact of a “sharp instrument,” the sheriff’s office said.
An infant and toddler were also in the home, but were left unharmed, the press release said.
Investigators believe that Rachel and Kyrrus Ozuna were mother and son, according to Spotsylvania Sherrif's Office Capt. Charles Carey. News reports indicate that Coleman was Rachel Ozuna’s boyfriend.
Further details about their deaths were not available.
Rachel Ozuna worked at Maple Canyon Family Dental in Mapleton, according to a Facebook post from the dental office.
“Words can’t describe the sadness we feel as we mourn one of our own,” the post said. “Rachel could brighten up a room anywhere she went.”
Carey said Rachel and Kyrrus Ozuna lived in Utah at some point. He did not have information on why they were in Virginia at the time they were killed, or if they moved to the state.
No other information about the case was immediately available Friday morning.
