GREEN RIVER, Emery County — A motorcyclist died after crashing head-on into a semitruck late Thursday night on U.S. Highway 6, officials said.

The crash took place about 10:45 p.m. about two miles north of the highway’s junction with I-70 in Emery County, according to a news release from Utah Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist was heading east when the rider crossed the center line and crashed into the semitruck, which was heading in the opposite direction, UHP said.

The motorcyclist died at the scene. Alcohol and prescription drug impairment, as well as windy weather, are being investigated as possible factors in the crash, UHP said.

The semitruck caught on fire after the crash and was destroyed, according to UHP. Due to the blaze, the highway was closed in both directions for about four hours as crews responded to the crash scene.

UHP did not provide any details about the motorcycle rider, including age, name or gender.
