MIDVALE — Police arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with a Midvale shooting that injured two other men Sunday night.

Police received reports of a shooting about 10 p.m. at Chelsea Park Apartments, 7351 S. Catalpa St. in Midvale, according to Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray.

Two men had tried to set up a drug deal to rob two others on Saturday, but when it didn't work, they attempted again on Sunday, Gray said.

A fight broke out between the four men, leaving two of them, both 18-year-old men, with gunshot wounds. The two were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to Gray.

Randon Cummings, 18, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on investigation of robbery and aggravated assault.

Police are still looking for another man involved in the incident who officers describe as a white male wearing a black hoodie around 18 to 20 years old. The victims of the shooting told police the man at large was stabbed and beaten with a skateboard during the altercation.

Investigators said the shooting does not appear to be gang related, and witnesses are cooperating with police in the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Unified Police at 801-743-7000.
