THE ROAD — The oldest joke in the book goes like this:

Setup: Why did the chicken cross the road?

Punchline: To get to the other side.

Every dad on the planet has told this joke and variations thereof. Why did the turtle cross the road? Why did the football player cross the road? Why did the dad cross the road?

Another obvious setup is, why did the fish cross the road? It's funny because fish can't cross roads. Well they can't, right? Technically that's true, unless you're a chum salmon in Washington.

This video shows salmon desperately trying to cross a flooded road, and it's pretty incredible to watch. These fish are using all of their might in an effort to get across the road, but it turns out to be too much work for many of the fish.

Yesterday's Have You Seen This?

The description of the video on YouTube states, "We were driving along Skokomish Valley Road and there were chum salmon trying to cross the flooded road between creeks in the area. The field to the left has several hundred chum sitting in it. When the river and creeks flood, the fish get a bit lost and end up going everywhere. They generally go anywhere that the water flows."

So, why did the fish cross the road? According to this explanation, they did it because they were confused and really didn't know what else to do.
