PROVO — There's nothing quite like singing, or should I say shouting, a fight song in a stadium with a group of thousands of people excited about a touchdown or a win — but I don't know if I've ever thought it sounded beautiful.

The BYU Men's Chorus recently released a version of the BYU fight song that is just that — simply beautiful. It's one that could belong on a playlist of hymns.

The harmonies from the choir members are enchanting, and I realize how wonderful a different one is each time I listen.

Having a hymn-like song at BYU sports games is not novel; about 15 years ago, Cougar Marching Band director Fred McInnis revived BYU's "College Song," which predates the fight song. Although the band had been playing the music, he had to find the words.

The BYU marching band puts down their instruments after each football game and sings the "College Song" a cappella.

Although it's not very feasible, I think it would be awesome if the whole stadium learned these harmonies for the fight song before the next BYU game (which, sadly, is not going to be in this NCAA tournament) and put on an even larger surprise performance.
