SALT LAKE CITY — Chinatown Supermarket in South Salt Lake was closed this week after health officials found multiple violations, according to a Salt Lake County Health Department report.

The store, located at 3390 S. State Street, closed Monday due to 31 violations, according to the report. By Friday afternoon, the store had been reopened.

Health officials conduct routine visits at each restaurant in Salt Lake County at least once a year, according to health department Spokesman Nicholas Rupp. Some eateries may be visited multiple times, according to Rupp.

Several foods were being stored at temperatures outside the required range, including duck, eggs and barbeque pork, according to the report. Other foods were being held without proper date markings.

Some single-use items were being reused, according to the report. Utensils were not being cleaned frequently enough to “preclude accumulation of soil,” the report states.

Various surfaces in the store, including shelves, walls and floors, were unclean, according to the health department report. Chemicals, including pesticides, were being stored in the kitchen and next to food equipment, the report states.

Restaurants that have been closed are typically reopened after health officials conduct a follow-up visit and determine that the violations have been addressed.
